Developing Undergraduate Sigma Chis to Become Future Leaders

The Sigma Chi Fraternity has a long standing history of developing values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community. With its 244 undergraduate chapters and 125 alumni chapters, Sigma Chi is one of the largest fraternal organizations.  In 1997, Sigma Chi Horizons was launched as a leadership development opportunity for undergraduate members of Sigma Chi.

Colorado-based TRACOM Associate Footprints Consulting  developed a leadership model that included TRACOM’s SOCIAL STYLE.  SOCIAL STYLE is a behavior-based interpersonal skills model proven to enhance leadership performance.  In addition to the recognized value of SOCIAL STYLE in leadership, Style aligns directly with the beliefs and principles of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In a document conceived by the founding members, the spirit of Sigma Chi is described and outlines the core values of the fraternity and explains that the fraternity is about bringing together people of different temperaments, talents and convictions who all share a common belief system.  At its core, SOCIAL STYLE is about understanding the behavioral differences of individuals and using that knowledge to work effectively with others.  SOCIAL STYLE recognizes that an organization is greater than the sum of its individual members.

“With the Horizons program, our focus is building enduring leaders, who will go on to become valuable members of their chapter, the campus and the community,” said Michael Greenberg, the fraternity’s current Grand Consul or international president. “Sigma Chis embark on a leadership journey from the first day they join the fraternity. The Horizons Program is our way of ensuring that their journey is a successful one.”

“My time spent at the Horizons program was unlike anything I have ever experienced. It was a week of my life that I will never forget and one that I will cherish forever.” – Nick Morell, Summer 2014 participant, President of Sigma Chi – Beta Tau Chapter.

The Sigma Chi Horizons program is one of many initiatives supported through TRACOM Cares, TRACOM’s program for non-profit and academic organizations.  The objective of TRACOM Cares is to specifically address the needs of future leaders and contributors by equipping them with the necessary Social Intelligence skills to be successful. TRACOM is proud to support programs such as the Sigma Chi Horizons with significantly discounted or free assessments, program facilitation and course materials.  Over the previous three years TRACOM has invested more than $600K in such initiatives. The goal of this program is to equip future generations with Social Intelligence skills necessary to be successful as future leaders.
