Are people drawn to certain occupations because these jobs fit with their SOCIAL STYLE? While all Styles are represented across all occupations, it only makes sense that some people will choose their occupations because the skills and environment appeal to their natures. We examined our North American database and found that Amiable Style people are highly represented in several jobs, notably teaching (43% are Amiable), human resources (30%), and training professional (28%). These individuals are caring and supportive, sociable, and like to help others. Therefore, it is no surprise that they are well represented in these three occupations.

In order to create something new, you need to have a firm understanding of the status quo. Albert Einstein had mastered the field of physics before he changed it, and Steve Jobs was an expert in computer design when he invented new devices that changed how people interact with technology. If you are working on something that is important to you and your company, immerse yourself in the topic. This will give you a high level of understanding, but will also provide insight about areas that can be changed and improved upon. Then relax. Once you have immersed yourself in a topic and studied it carefully, it is helpful to detach yourself from the problem. Many famous "Eureka" moments have come when people allowed their minds and energy to wander from the problems they were working on. Albert Einstein took naps or played the violin. The point is to allow your subconscious mind the opportunity to incubate on the problem. By flexing your creative muscle, then relaxing it, you will achieve results.⁣

For Expressive Style people this means they should consciously monitor their impact on others and control some of their behavior that can be overwhelming for co-workers. They should evaluate the appropriateness of their actions, which is challenging for them because they are naturally pre-disposed to be spontaneous and outgoing. If they are able to do this, they will find that co-workers respond better to them and are more willing to work with them.
